Magic Eraser: Removing Crayon & Pencil Marks from Painted Door

Plus 1 more

Problem: My kids drew on the freshly painted bedroom door with crayon and pencil. Simple soap and water cleaning was ineffective, and scrubbing risked damaging the paint finish.
The WD-40 Fix: I decided to try the famous WD-40 hack. I lightly sprayed WD-40 Multi-Use Product directly onto the crayon and pencil marks. I let it sit for about 30 seconds. The WD-40 dissolved the wax and graphite quickly, and I was able to wipe everything away easily with a soft, clean microfiber cloth.
Result: The door is spotless! WD-40 removed all the marks without scrubbing, saving the paint finish and avoiding a repaint. It was a quick and easy solution that restored the door to its original look.

Step 1: Apply WD-40 and Wipe Clean

I took a small, clean, lint-free cloth (you can also use a soft paper towel) and lightly sprayed a small amount of WD-40 Multi-Use Product directly onto the cloth, not onto the door itself. This helps prevent overspray and excessive application.
Then, I gently rubbed the cloth over the crayon and pencil marks. I used very light pressure and was careful not to scrub hard. I immediately noticed that the WD-40 began to dissolve the crayon wax and lift the pencil graphite without requiring much effort.

Step 2: Apply WD-40 to Cloth and Gently Wipe

I took a small, clean, lint-free microfibre cloth (a soft cotton cloth or soft paper towel works too) and lightly sprayed a small amount of the WD-40 Multi-Use Product onto the cloth, making sure not to spray it directly onto the door surface.
Using very light pressure, I gently rubbed the WD-40 coated cloth over the areas with the crayon and pencil marks. I avoided scrubbing hard to protect the paint. The marks began to lift and dissolve almost instantly with minimal effort. This process quickly and safely removed all the crayon and pencil without damaging the freshly painted finish.

Step 3: Clean Residue for a Perfect Finish

After successfully removing the marks, a thin oily residue from the WD-40 remained on the door. To remove this and restore the paint finish, I took a new, clean cloth and a small amount of mild soap and water solution (the same simple solution that failed to remove the marks initially).
I gently wiped the treated areas with this soapy cloth, ensuring all the WD-40 residue was lifted. Finally, I used a dry, soft cloth to dry and lightly buff the area. The result was a perfectly clean, mark-free door with the paint finish completely intact. The WD-40 Fix saved the freshly painted door!
